Pulley positions

Every Pulley on Your Belt Conveyor

Each position carries a different load and needs a different design. We build to your conveyor data or your drawing.

Drive & head pulleys

Transmit the drive torque to the belt. Usually lagged for grip, with the heaviest shell, shaft and bearings on the conveyor.

Tail pulleys

Turn the belt at the loading end. Plain, lagged or wing designs for sticky or spilled material.

Bend & snub pulleys

Change belt direction and increase the wrap angle around the drive pulley for better traction.

Take-up pulleys

Keep belt tension constant in gravity or screw take-ups, under constant load.

Design and construction

How We Build a Conveyor Drum That Lasts

A conveyor pulley fails in predictable places: the shell-to-end-disc weld, the shaft-to-hub connection and the bearing seats. We design and build against those failure points.

  • Shells from heavy tube or rolled plate, with wall thickness matched to belt tension
  • End discs welded under EN 1090 EXC3 and ISO 3834-2, or turbine-type end discs for high-tension drums
  • Shaft connection by keyway, shrink fit or locking assemblies, as your design requires
  • Crowned or flat face, turned after welding for true running
  • Bearing seats turned or ground to tolerance, then dynamically balanced

Process

From Conveyor Data to Installed Pulley

Conveyor data

Belt width, tension, pulley position, shaft and bearing data, or your drawing.

Design check

We check shell, end disc and shaft sizing against the load and suggest changes if needed.

Fabrication

Shell, end discs and hubs are cut, rolled and welded under certified procedures.

Machining

Face, bearing seats and shaft are turned, and ground where required.

Lagging & balancing

Rubber or ceramic lagging is applied, then the drum is dynamically balanced.

Assembly & dispatch

Bearings and housings fitted if ordered, then inspected, documented and packed.

FAQ

Questions About Conveyor Drums and Pulleys

Which conveyor pulleys do you manufacture?

Drive and head pulleys, tail pulleys, bend, snub and take-up pulleys, and wing pulleys, up to Ø3,200 mm and 12 tonnes.

Can you supply pulleys complete with bearings and housings?

Yes. We supply drums bare, with shaft, or as complete assemblies with bearings and housings, ready to install.

What lagging options do you offer?

Plain, diamond and herringbone rubber lagging, ceramic lagging and polyurethane coating.

Can you make a replacement for an existing pulley?

Yes. Send the drawing, or the dimensions and photos of the old pulley, and we build a matching replacement.

Do you balance conveyor drums?

Yes. Drums are dynamically balanced after machining to reduce vibration and extend bearing life.

What information do you need for a pulley quote?

Pulley position, belt width, belt tension or drive power, face length, shaft dimensions, bearing type, lagging, quantity and destination.

Conveyor Drums and Pulleys for Mining, Cement, Quarries and Ports

The drive pulley is where a belt conveyor gets its power, and the bend and take-up pulleys keep the belt on track and under tension. When one of them fails, the whole line stops. That is why conveyor drums deserve more care than their simple shape suggests: the welds, the shaft connection and the bearing seats decide whether a pulley lasts one year or fifteen.

Conveyor pulleys in every size

We build conveyor drums from small tail pulleys up to heavy drive drums of Ø3,200 mm and 12 tonnes, the size range used on long overland conveyors, port stackers and reclaimers, and mining plants. For large pulleys, see also our large diameter rollers.

Lagged for grip and wear

Drive pulleys usually need lagging to transmit torque without slip. We supply rubber and ceramic lagged drums in plain, diamond and herringbone patterns, and relag worn drums as part of our roller repair service.

Complete conveyor components

Pulleys are only part of the conveyor. We also make conveyor rollers and idlers and conveyor stations, so you can order drums, idlers and frames from one supplier. For welded conveyor structures, see Nika Steelworks.

Industries we supply

Our conveyor drums run in mining, aggregate and quarry, cement, recycling and port and bulk handling conveyors. To start a quote, send your conveyor data or drawing through the contact page.
