Rollers and Drums for Mining

Operating conditions

Mining Conveyors Are the Hardest Test for a Roller

Mine conveyors run long distances, carry heavy and abrasive ore, start under full load and often run around the clock. Drive pulleys see the highest belt tensions of any industry, and impact idlers at transfer points take constant shock. Downtime is measured in tonnes of lost production per hour.

  • High belt tension: heavy shells, end discs and shafts sized for the load
  • Abrasive, wet material: ceramic lagging on drives, rubber on bends
  • Shock loads: impact rollers and heavy frames at loading points
  • Remote sites: robust designs and spares that fit first time

How we help

What Matters Most, and How We Deliver It

Size and strength

Drive drums and shafts up to Ø3,200 mm and 12 t, with certified welding on every shell.

Grip in wet conditions

Ceramic and grooved rubber lagging that keeps the belt driving in rain and slurry.

Fast replacement

Drums and rollers rebuilt from drawings or the worn original, when the OEM cannot deliver.

Repair over replace

Relagging, journal repair and rebalancing of worn pulleys.

FAQ

Questions From the Mining Industry

Can you make heavy drive drums for mining conveyors?

Yes. Drive and pulley drums up to Ø3,200 mm, 6,000 mm long and 12 tonnes, lagged and balanced.

Which lagging do you recommend for mining?

Ceramic lagging on high-tension and wet drives, grooved rubber on secondary drives, and plain rubber on bend and snub pulleys.

Do you relag and repair mining pulleys?

Yes. We remove worn lagging, repair shells and journals, relag and rebalance.

Rollers for mining

Heavy-Duty Conveyor Components for the Mining Industry

Mining is where conveyor pulleys are biggest and most heavily loaded. A drive pulley on an overland or plant conveyor can weigh several tonnes and carry belt tensions that standard pulley designs cannot handle. We build conveyor drums and pulleys for this range, up to Ø3,200 mm, with shells, end discs and shafts sized for the load and welded under EN 1090 EXC3.

For wet and abrasive conditions, drives get ceramic or rubber lagging. Along the belt, idlers and stations carry the load, with impact sets under transfer points.

When a pulley fails, we build replacements from drawings or the old drum, and repair drums that can be saved. Send your conveyor data via the contact page.

Where rollers sit on a mine conveyor

A typical mine conveyor has one or more drive pulleys at the head end, a tail pulley at the loading end, snub and bend pulleys around the drive to increase belt wrap, and a take-up pulley that keeps tension constant. Between them run hundreds of carrying idlers in troughing sets and return idlers under the belt. Each of these positions has its own load case, and each can be built by us to your drawing or conveyor data.

What fails, and how we design against it

On heavy mining pulleys, failures usually start at the shell-to-end-disc weld or at the shaft-to-hub connection, where cyclic bending stress is highest. We size shell wall thickness and end discs for the belt tension, weld under certified EN 1090 EXC3 and ISO 3834-2 procedures, and machine after welding so the face and bearing seats run true. Where your design uses locking assemblies, the hub bores are machined to the tolerance the assembly requires.

Spares strategy for remote sites

For remote mines, waiting months for an OEM pulley is not an option. Many operators keep one spare for each critical drive pulley. We build spares to the original drawing, or reverse-engineer them from a worn pulley, and keep the approved drawing on file so the next one can be ordered by reference.
